Designing For Good.

The mission of the Duet Design Group Foundation is to donate interior design services to Denver nonprofits that provide residential space and supportive services for youth, adults, and families who require a healing environment. We love to assist our nonprofit partners by creating thoughtful, holistic, healing environments for residents and clients in order for them to thrive and grow.

The Foundation is led by Executive Director Lezlie Goldberg and supported by members who share a vision for investing in our community with their energy, resources, and leadership: Kristen Bahnsen, a partner at Dentons Global Advisors; Josh Sroge, CFO at HBAR Foundation; Devon Tobin, principal of Duet Design Group and Duet Build; and Katherine Yarger, a litigation attorney at Lehotsky Keller.

Among the nonprofits Duet Design GrouP Foundation has served are:

Third Way Center

Third Way Center breaks the cycle of intergenerational abuse by empowering traumatized teens to become successful adults and productive members of the community. The nonprofit provides residential treatment programs, and the Foundation was delighted to remodel and design an apartment to give fresh space to teens working so hard to get well.

The Lincoln House building is over 100 years old and felt a bit dark and tired amid the beautiful architecture of times gone by. The design and remodel of this apartment was beyond what we could have imagined possible. Having this roadmap for us to emulate in other apartments was a gift. It was like having a crystal ball to see that what we never thought possible was within reach.

Brent’s Place

Brent’s Place in Aurora is a long-term home-away-from-home for families who need housing while a member undergoes treatment for life-threatening illnesses. The organization protects the fragile health of the patient while strengthening the integrity of the family unit and providing programs that promote healing. The Duet Design Group Foundation designed two projects for this important community resource:

The Forum Apartments

The Forum, additional apartments Brent’s Place rented to provide additional housing to families in need. We designed 15 two- and three-bedroom apartments, offering complimentary design services and dollars for soft goods to furnish and stock the spaces with essentials. The goal for us was to bring comfort, beauty, and warmth to their temporary living spaces during a very difficult time in the families’ lives.

The Common Space

The Common Space, a shared multipurpose area at the original Brent’s Place, where families gather to eat breakfast, watch TV, and hang out. There’s also a craft area and a toddler play area. The Foundation designed an inviting, durable space to facilitate healthy and enjoyable interactions among family members and make them feel welcome.

Our first impression was beyond our expectations. The furniture was comfortable, and the layout of the apartment is very efficient.

Caruso Family Charities

Caruso Family Charities assists families who have a child, adolescent, or young adult being treated in Colorado for a life-threatening or life-altering event. The nonprofit’s mission is to relieve some financial pressures — such as rent or mortgage payments, insurance premiums, medical co-pays, or energy bills — so the family can focus on caring for the sick child. The Duet Design Group Foundation helped the Caruso Family Charities furnish and decorate a home for a family whose child had undergone years of treatment. Because of the child’s need to be close to the hospital, the family had lived at Brent’s Place for seven years, so the Foundation was honored to be part of giving them their first permanent home, complete with finishing touches to make it welcoming and warm.

The Duet Design Group Foundation welcomes nominations of Colorado-area nonprofits who need help creating spaces that will support healing for youth, adults, and/or families. Contact Executive Director Lezlie Goldberg for an application and to learn more.
