Designing in Colorado Right Now: What’s Shifting—and What We’re Cutting

The work is getting sharper. The conversations are getting better. And Colorado clients are asking for more—just not in the way you might think.

They’re not chasing trends. They’re chasing something that feels like them. They want rooms that reflect their pace, their history, their chaos, and their calm. They want warmth without weight. Clean lines without sterility. Personality without noise. And they want help getting there.

Here’s what we’re noticing—and how it’s shaping the work:

1. Clients Are More Informed—But Also More Stuck

They’re coming in with folders of inspiration. They’ve lived through remodels. They’ve watched the reels. But they’re stuck—too many options, not enough direction.

Our job has become less about showing them what’s possible, and more about showing them what’s worth it.

That means saying no more often. Tightening the edit. And helping them build a space they’ll still love in five years—without ever saying the word “timeless.”

2. The Mood Has Shifted

Glossy is out. Clean and lived-in is in.

The best materials feel like they’ve been there a while—even when they’re brand new. Clients are choosing finishes with texture, light with restraint, and layouts that leave a little breathing room.

It’s not about less. It’s about clarity.

3. Colorado Still Sets the Tone

The views, the light, the climate—it’s all still shaping how we design here. And we’re leaning into it more, not less.

Outdoor space is more connected. Materials are more grounded. Scale is considered. And interiors are being asked to do more: perform, soften, age well, and reflect the landscape they sit in.

The region used to inform the work. Now it defines it.

4. The Work Is More Emotional

Clients aren’t just asking for things anymore. They’re asking for what it should feel like to live there.

Less “make it pretty.” More “make it feel calm,” “make it feel collected,” “make it feel like me.”

And that’s the shift we welcome most. Because that’s when the work stops being decoration—and becomes design.
